Follow-up questions

After the session, follow up with an email or a call to the parents to ask them what their kids might have mentioned either on the way home, or at home to their parents, siblings, or friends.

Why this technique
What kids mention outside of the research session can not only give you an idea of what was top of mind but also provides insight into what the kid may have been hesitant to express to you directly because they were shy or wanted to be nice. Feedback from parents will give you a different perspective to consider, particularly in a remote session, because they may be able to see their kids’ expressions and body language more clearly than you.
