Out of sight

Position yourself out of kids’ immediate view. Find a spot where you can listen and observe, but they can still get your attention if they want to. In a virtual session, try turning off your camera. If kids do ask a question, encourage them to answer it themselves: “Hmm, I’m not sure, what do you think we do here?”

Why this technique
It’s natural for kids to turn to you to find out what to do next. Positioning yourself out of their view discourages that natural behavior during times when you want to see what they do without help from adults.
