Early observations

Spend some time watching kids as they enter and wait for the session. You’ll start to get a better sense of how expressive they are when they are in a more natural environment interacting with their parents or siblings. 

Why this technique
These informal observations can help you put kids’ expressions and emotions into context during the session because you have a sense of their emotional baseline. For example, if kids are naturally quiet with their families, you may not get a loud, emotional response with your product either.
