Camera cues

Guide parents on how to set up and move their phone, tablet, or laptop cameras for video recordings in advance through email. Sharing a photo that shows the setup with a description helps. For example: “Angle the laptop towards the child with the screen tilted downward to capture the play area. If possible, please also capture facial expressions. The laptop screen should be slightly dimmed so it won’t distract the child from what they’re playing.” It is also helpful to share a screenshot of what the researchers would like to see on camera.

Why this technique
This gives parents time to experiment setting up their cameras and to find an appropriate space for the playtesting session where there’s enough room for video recording.
